Kildare Veterinary Surgery describes itself as a family-owned practice, and its website positions it as more than a standard vet clinic: it operates an onsite hospital alongside a broader “pet resort” setup (including boarding kennels, a daycare centre, a dog park, a dog gym, and a wellness centre). On the clinical side, the site specifically advertises a weekly vaccination clinic and a spay/neuter discount offer. Recent reviews are mixed: some owners say the team are helpful and friendly and praise ongoing care for multiple pets, while several others describe serious issues with communication and rude/aggressive behaviour during stressful situations.

Extremely Disappointed and Shocked by the Treatment I have never experienced such poor care or rudeness from a veterinary clinic. I called twice that morning with no answer and, based on what staff told me the day before, I arrived at 8:25am as advised — to come in first thing when they open. The website clearly states 7am but I was told 8:30. My pet was very unwell, yet I was told I couldn’t even wait inside and had to stand in the rain. Because it was freezing and lashing rain, I sat in my car with the engine running for heat. About five minutes later, a man came out and aggressively banged on my window, telling me to turn the car off and rudely asking if I was in a rush. When I explained that I was told to come early due to how sick my animal was, he snapped that I should have called first (even though I had called twice with no answer) and then told me he wouldn’t even come out or speak to us until 9:30/10am. He ordered us to move out of the car park, despite there being around ten empty spaces. At no point did he ask what was wrong with my pet or show any care or concern. His tone was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. He shouted at me through the window and genuinely scared me to the point that we left. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour towards someone trying to get help for a sick animal. I will not be returning.

1 Star — No Care, No Empathy, Completely Disorganised I brought my daughter and her very unwell cat to this vet early in the morning, and the experience was genuinely shocking. The day before, she was specifically told by staff to come up first thing, and we were under the clear impression the vet would be aware we were returning. She also called twice that morning with no answer. We arrived at 8:25am, concerned about the cat’s condition, only to be told we could not wait inside — even though it was pouring rain and freezing. My daughter had to sit in the car with the heat on for the animal’s sake. A few minutes later, a man came out and aggressively banged on the car window, demanding the engine be turned off and speaking to my daughter in a very rude manner. Not once did he ask about the cat or show any empathy for the situation. When she explained that staff had told her to come early, he snapped that she “should have called,” despite her making two unanswered calls. He then told us he wouldn’t even speak to us until 9:30/10am and insisted we move out of the car park, despite plenty of empty spaces. His attitude was hostile, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. From my point of view as a parent, watching someone speak to my daughter like that while she was worried sick about her pet was upsetting and infuriating. The lack of communication between staff, the disorganisation, and the total absence of care or compassion for the animal were unbelievable. I left with the strong impression that this clinic is not focused on animal welfare or respectful treatment of clients. We won’t be returning.

The team are always helpful and friendly and give the best care to all our pets. Can't thank them enough for looking after us all so well.

The staff are great and very helpful, however Des Groome might be the single most unprofessional and rude vet I can imagine. When going through the heartbreaking process of organising the re-homing of my dog, he made a point of condescendingly and angrily questioning our decision in front of his embarrassed staff, and would not even accept that it was rude on even a basic human level. He made a difficult decision much harder than it already was, while admitting that he knew nothing of the situation that he felt entitled to judge. I'm sorry the staff have to work with him. Avoid the practice like the plague.

Avoid these vets if you care for your pets because they only care about the money and don't care about your pet in the slightest. Everyone local knows to avoid this place. ⚠️
