O'Dowd Veterinary Hospital’s ownership (independent vs part of a corporate group) isn’t stated in the information provided. Based on the latest reviews, it’s a general small-animal practice that regularly handles routine care (vaccinations, neutering, microchipping) as well as sensitive end-of-life appointments. Reviewers repeatedly describe practical touches that made a difference: follow-up phone calls after visits, text reminders for booster vaccinations, and extra privacy and time offered for euthanasia (including a separate entrance and an appointment arranged before normal opening for one family). The clinic has also been mentioned as accepting rescue vouchers (DAR) and hosting a charity “Santa Paws” photo event.

O Dowds have been treating our dogs for a for a few years now since we moved to the area (particularly our 18 year old yorkie). They have always accommodating, compassionate and caring, and we regularly receive follow up phone calls . However, they truly out did any other vet’s we have ever been to recently. Heartbreakingly, we had to take out 18 year old yorkie on her final journey. From start to finish O Dowds were unbelievable, from making an extra appointment before they opened available to us, to having a completely separate door for us to enter. Their compassion and understanding on the day made our journey just that little bit easier. But is was 7 days later when we received a personalised hand written card of condolence, which contained a packet of ‘Forgetmenot’ seeds to spread in our dogs memeory that truly blew us away. Thank you.

We had the most wonderful experience at O’Dowds Vets in Ardee during their Santa Paws event in aid of the Louth Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LSPCA). From the moment we arrived, everything felt festive, welcoming, and so thoughtfully organised. Santa himself was absolutely excellent — incredibly gentle, calm, and wonderfully patient with our puppy Freddie. It was such a joy to see how relaxed and happy Freddie was in Santa’s arms, and the photos we got are ones we’ll treasure for years. The staff at O’Dowds Vets were amazing, too. They created such a warm atmosphere and were always nearby with a friendly smile, ready to offer help if needed. Their kindness and care shone through the entire event. I truly hope that O’Dowds Vets host Santa Paws again in Christmas 2026, because it’s an experience not to be missed. A perfect mix of holiday magic, community spirit, and genuine love for animals. Highly recommended! 🎄🐾

Excellent vet practice, going above and beyond for pets and their humans. We’ve been bringing our dogs here for years and have always received the best of care by every individual working here.

Dora is our first ever pet. O'Dowd's care for her as much as we love her. I've recommended them to friends and family and they too are very happy. The staff are second to none and extremely thorough. Keep up the good work guys 🫶

A lovely empathetic experience. Our family dog had to be put to sleep on a weekend and while other vets were closed or refusing to see us because we weren't an existing patient, O'Dowd Vets could not have been more accommodating. We're very grateful as a family.

Agent 47 (our rescued kitten) was neutered and microchipped today. Dropped at 9am, ready by 3pm—came out full of beans. They tested for ringworm, applied flea treatment, and did a full check-up. They also accept DAR (Drogheda Animal Rescue) vouchers, which made caring for our little rescue rascal much easier. Kind, gentle, professional—highly recommend.

I have brought my dog here since he was a puppy. He has been neutered here, and they have kept him up to date on all his vaccinations. The staff are friendly and helpful. The vet is always kind and comforting to my rather anxious/nervous dog. There are text messages sent out with reminders for vaccination boosters. The staff is then always quick to answer the phone and find an appointment slot available to accommodate your schedule. 10/10. Highly recommend.
