Highfield Veterinary Maynooth

Have been using Highfield Vets, Maynooth since they opened, with Rolo, our first dog and now with our latest, Charlie. The staff are always very professional, extremely helpful and so plesant. I have no hesitation in recommending the team at Highfileds, where they take that extra step to make your pet relax and feel special from the moment they walk through the door, until they leave with their little treat. It might seem simple but it's the little things that means so much.

Don't go near them. We have used Highfield since they opened in Maynooth. When our spaniel refused to eat or go for a walk we knew something was seriously wrong with him. Highfield wouldn’t take him in - they were booked up' But we knew he was ill. Later my husband went up again and they referred him to an emergency vet. This vet gave our dog an anti-nausea injection but he was still ill the next morning. My husband took him back and asked he be scanned. They discovered that the poor dog had eaten a tea towel (we hadn't noticed and maybe that was our fault). The tea towel was caught in his tummy and if he’d been seen earlier, this may not have happened. Anyway, the vet operated and he came through the operation but they warned us it was still touch and go. THEY warned US. That night - because they have no overnight - we had to transport our dog 40km to Kildare where the next morning he walked out, wagging his tail. Back to Highfied for them to watch him. That evening, we collected him from Highfield, and were told how great he was doing. When we arrived in Kidare, the vet there - who was excellent - took one look at him abs said he was seriously ill. She checked him and his temperature was really high and his lactates were off the charts. Eighty percent of his bowel was destroyed. They had not monitored him at all in Highfield - indeed when my daughter and I queried this after our poor dog died - they did not deny it. The girl who talked to us was very good at saying nothing. Looking back we should have demanded the paper work to see what exactly was done the Wednesday they were ‘caring’ for him, but we were distraught. I told them at the time that I was not a person who sued others, that all I wanted was for no other dog to be neglected the way our five year old dog was. I hope they have taken my complaints onboard. This all happened six months ago and it still devastates me each day - I know pets die, but he could have been saved with a little more care. If I could give them zero stars I would. I also clicked overpriced as our other dog was paying 70 euro for heart meds. Our new vet charges 56 euro for the same meds.
