Portarlington Veterinary Centre is an independently run small-animal clinic established in March 2018 by Anne Flanagan. The practice presents itself as focused on routine preventative care and in-house procedures, with “Surgery & X-Ray” listed on its site and grooming provided by an in-house dog groomer. The website also states a “24hrs a day 365 days a year” service.
From the latest reviews available to us, owners most often describe day-to-day care such as neutering, vaccinations, parasite control, and treatment for wounds/illness in cats and dogs. Several reviews give concrete examples of how cases are handled (e.g., taking a very sick dog “right away,” making time for owners to say goodbye during euthanasia, and helping with neutering of a trapped feral cat). A small number of recent reviews report serious concerns, including refusal to see an acutely unwell cat because the owners were not existing clients, and a disputed account of complications and communication after a puppy’s neutering.
Services explicitly mentioned on the clinic website and/or in reviews include
Emergency/urgent care
The website also describes the team as having grown from “one vet and one nurse” to include a receptionist, two nurses, one full-time vet, one part-time vet, and a full-time dog groomer (individual names/roles beyond those above aren’t provided in the inputs).

my parents came in today with their very unwell cat that was left for dead in a hit and run and were refused service as they are not clients ! how can you refuse a cat that is nearly dying shame on this business. The other vets in town has only just closed down surely new clients would be expected!

Brought my puppy in to be neutered. The injection site became infected due to bacteria present - the vet tried to dismiss my concerns about the cause and was very very misleading about what came back in test reports. When asked about the cause she tried to intimidate us by going over the top demeaning and tilling us about her 12 years of college etc. Her attitude when things went wrong was so bad when I showed frustration she claimed I and then my 70 year old Dad were ‘verbally abusive’ this was utterly pathetic. It’s now months and months later and my puppy still has abscesses that are weeping and uncomfortable all over his neck and chest on one side. We have taken him elsewhere because the vet was more concerned about not being blamed than fixing the issue. Oh and we paid her nearly €800 for the pleasure….

Always great service here. Ciara & Chloe are so friendly and helpful, along with Anne and all the team. Nothing is too much trouble especially when I arrive in with a feral cat for neutering that I've just managed to trap that morning. Highly recommended

I have to say, I have animals many years and have always had difficulty with vets in Dublin. My friends introduced me to Portarlington vets and I would highly recommend them, the staff are amazing, kind, caring and so professional and Anne is the most amazing vet, I couldn't say a bad word, they are truly the best vets I have dealt with in all the years, thank you to you all.

By far the most amazing veterinary clinic I have ever had dealings with. My dogs are my babies. Harley my bichon got so sick a few weeks ago and the girls took her right away. The staff were amazing and harley was taken care of straight way. Any questions that I ask they answer how ever silly they might be and thats coming from a extremely worried dog mom. Thanks so much Mel 🙏 💓

We own 2 cats, which are (of course) indoor only with supervised garden time in the sun. However, we also look after 2 abandoned pets (one was spayed, the other one was an intact male until we neutered him) + 1 very old stray neutered male cat that lives in our front garden. We chose to not ignore these souls at our doorsteps for the past almost 4 years now, and we keep them all de-wormed, vaccinated and ticks and fleas free with Dr. Anne. Every pain, wound or ache are treated here. And although they all hate the 10min car ride there, they all are more relaxed when leaving (me, most of all). Dr. Anne and her team are kind, helpful - good people really - nice, and competent. I couldn't have a better experience. I appreciate them very much.

I could not recommend Anne and her team more! Our dog has been cared for over the years and we have always been very happy with the service and value for money. Recently our dog was sadly put down. Anne was so kind and empathetic and allowed us space and time to say goodbye to our dog, Sam. I’ll be forever grateful.
